Rainwater Harvesting Training and Certification

Would you like to schedule a live training session with RMS?

Does your firm or company have questions about rainwater harvesting, stormwater management or graywater systems? RMS is available for lunch & learns, webinars, or other tailor-made training sessions for your engineers and designers. Click the button below to fill out the training request form.

RMS is also a member of the American Rainwater Catchment System Association (ARCSA). ARCSA offers a number of training and professional development opportunities related to rainwater harvesting. In addition to in-person and online workshops and webinars, ARCSA now offers individuals a path to highly-regarded professional certification options thanks to a new partnership with ASSE International. Through this partnership, ARCSA’s rainwater harvesting training workshops are now prerequisites for the ASSE Series 21000 Rainwater Catchment Systems Personnel Certifications.

RMS also has two employees that are certified ARCSA/ASSE trainers (David Crawford and Benjamin Sojka). RMS will occasionally host ARCSA certified workshops at their headquarters in Roanoke, VA or in conjunction with other entities around the country.   Please see below for currently scheduled workshops.

ARCSA Workshops

ARCSA has a long history of offering professional development opportunities and currently offers three in-person rainwater harvesting workshops that provide pathways to ASSE Certification:

View the course description below to see which ones are right for you. Once you know which course you want to take, simply click on the link to the ARCSA website.

Rainwater Catchment Systems Designers Workshop #21120:

This two-day professional workshop is an in-depth rainwater harvesting course that provides the 16 hours of subject-specific classroom training required to sit for the ASSE Series 21120 Rainwater Catchment Systems Designer Certification exam. ARCSA’s flagship training provides attendees information the following topics: active and passive rainwater harvesting, system components, design for both outdoor and in-home or business rainwater use, sanitation for potable uses, rules and regulations, guidelines, business management, project planning, site planning and installation, safety, system construction, and maintenance. In this classroom workshop you will be guided through the subjects typically by two experienced instructors that will answer questions and encourage discussions to provide various system scenarios in order to expand your design and implementation thought process. Registrants receive the recently revised ARCSA Rain Harvesting Manual, which has been expanded to include all of North America. Passing the Designer Certification Exam requires reading the entire ARCSA Rain Harvesting Manual in addition to the classroom workshop. Once a Workshop has been completed a student will have 6 months to take the associated ASSE Certification Exam.

This workshop and certification is for individuals who design, plan, specify, and perform calculations for rainwater catchment systems.

Rainwater Catchment Systems Installer Workshop #21110:

This two-day professional workshop is an in-depth rainwater catchments systems installation course that provides the 16 hours of subject-specific training required to sit for the ASSE Series 21110 Rainwater Catchment Systems Installer Certification exam. The workshop combines four hours of in-classroom work and 12 hours of hands-on field work. Additionally, the students in this workshop will work through (in the form of an in-class activity) a real-life rainwater catchment system scenario prior to the field work. The field work will entail the review and assembly of five types of rainwater catchment projects. (Projects may vary slightly based on the facility hosting the training.) Passing the Installer Certification Exam requires attending a workshop and reading Chapters 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, 14, and 16, along with Appendices A.2 and A.3, of the ARCSA Rainwater Harvesting Manual as well as all of the Plumbing Engineering and Design Standard ARCSA/ASPE/ANSI 63-2013. However, we recommend you read the entire ARCSA Rain Harvesting Manual for your own knowledge and to provide context. Please note: The Manual is not included as part of the cost of the Installers Workshop. It is anticipated that a student will typically take the Designer Workshop first where the Manual is provided as part of the workshop cost. This workshop fees pay for instruction and supplies for assembling class systems. Once a Workshop has been completed a student will have 6 months to take the associated ASSE Certification Exam.

This workshop and certification is for individuals who install rainwater catchment systems.
